As I’ve illustrated to a range of different leaders over the course of time, if we want New Zealand to pick-up its game and really thrive, then those people who are responsible for leading our country and those who are responsible for leading organisations\/ other people should be basing all<\/strong><\/span> of their decisions\/ actions on the following very simple yet very practical “sensibility filter”…<\/span><\/p>\n

Is the decision\/ action that I’m about to make\/ take going to “enable<\/strong><\/span>” or “disable<\/span><\/strong>” the people whose interests I am charged with the responsibility of representing and developing ?<\/span><\/p>\n

And if the answer that enters your mind is that the contemplated action\/ decision is likely to disable<\/strong> your primary stakeholders, then don’t proceed any further to do what you had felt was a good idea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In my view, governance and operational level decision-makers should be doing everything in their power to make decisions\/ perform actions that enable<\/span><\/strong> the stakeholders who they represent – to help set people up to have the best chance of being the best that they can be. Without this orientation\/ mind-set, New Zealand won’t achieve the prosperity it deserves.<\/span><\/p>\n
